Woman as Master
It’s better to have a lazy bossy,
than a bossy lassie.
—Old Scottish Saying.
Pills and potions and ether
air, that girl has rockets in
her hair.
—Orbit.
Regardless of the long-term implications that our decadence has for the west on the whole, for the present time our culture is as radicalized as it ever has been. Women are more dominant today than ever before. With women controlling the public domain either overtly or covertly, there seems to be little rationale for their not doing the same thing in their personal relations with men. For the woman searching for a man to be her footnote, these are bully days indeed. Never has there been more malleable clay from which to mold a human being into an accoutrement. There are numerous psychological rewards available for those who wish to become the page of an alpha female. These males are often described as being liberal, equitable, sensitive, and just. Of course, those of us who are repulsed by such fellows have different names for them. My own favorite is “parakeet males.”
First and foremost the motivation of these men must be considered. Why do they wish to submerge their own identity with that of a woman’s? I happen to know someone who is the perfect example of one such non-entity as he used to be one of my best friends. Should a trade guild ever form which caters to the submissives of ballbusters, I am sure that old Fred will quickly obtain membership status there. Since I first met him he has spent all of his free time following one girl after another. To the ladies whom he pours his affections he is more of a groupie than a boyfriend. His friends were quick to discover whenever he latched onto a new girl as his annoying coffee klatch phone calls to us quickly subsided. We also witnessed his lightning acquisition of the habits and interests of his paramour. If she liked sailing then he liked sailing, if she pickled her brain with mindless television then he pickled his brain with the same levels of “must see TV.” He would begin following Boston Common, CS1: Bethlehem or whatever other idiocies happened to invade his living room. Most recently he has decided to take up running because...his new girlfriend does it. He leads the life of a straggler.
Despite his frequent infatuations, Fred has always maintained a continuing attachment to his male friends as he tries to insist on our being a party to his folie a deux. He tries to recruit his pals into being co-groupies of his girlfriend. If they went to dinner, a movie, a bar or a street festival, Fred would always lobby for us to accompany them. It was as if he wanted others to share in the guilt of his self-obliteration. He used to brag proudly about being a chameleon but there is no pride to be had in altering one’s opinions and habits to suit those of another. His subservience has purged his body
